Repair or Replace?

If your heater is fairly young and the problem is a part, like a thermostat, heating element or gas valve, a repair usually makes sense.

If the tank itself is leaking, it can't be repaired and needs to be replaced. The same goes for an older heater that keeps needing repairs. Most tank water heaters last about 8 to 12 years.

We'll tell you which way we'd go and why, and give you a price for each option upfront, so the decision is yours.

Tank or Tankless?

A tank water heater costs less upfront and is a simple swap for most homes. A tankless heater costs more to install but heats water only when you need it, takes up far less space and typically lasts longer.

Tankless is a great fit for larger households that run out of hot water, or for anyone short on space. We'll look at your home, gas or electric service and hot water use, then recommend the right fit.

Water Heaters FAQ

How long do water heaters last?

Most tank water heaters last about 8 to 12 years. Tankless water heaters often last 20 years or more with regular maintenance. Hard water and skipped maintenance can shorten either one.

Can you replace my water heater the same day?

In many cases, yes. Most standard tank replacements are done in a single visit. Timing depends on the model you choose and availability, and our team will give you a clear timeline when you book.

Why is water coming out of the pipe on the side of my water heater?

That pipe is attached to the temperature and pressure relief valve, a safety device. If it's releasing water, the tank may be overheating or building up too much pressure, or the valve may be failing. Call us to have it checked rather than capping it off.

Is a tankless water heater worth it?

For many homes, yes. Tankless units save space, provide hot water on demand and usually last longer than tanks. They cost more upfront, so we'll walk you through both options and let you decide.

How often should a water heater be flushed?

Once a year is a good rule for most tank water heaters, especially with hard water. Flushing removes sediment that makes the heater work harder and can shorten its life.

Is there a tax credit or rebate for a new water heater in Georgia?

Georgia doesn't currently offer a state tax credit for water heaters, and the federal energy efficiency tax credit ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. Atlanta Gas Light customers may qualify for a $200 to $500 rebate on a qualifying high-efficiency gas water heater. We'll provide the invoice you need to apply.
